Gold Bars: Who the F*ck is Uncle Ludwig?

Publicly accusing his ex-business partner of profiting from stolen Nazi gold, Montreal lawyer Glenn Joseph Feldman drags his daughter Alex into a serpentine investigation. At its center is the mysterious and arcane Uncle Ludwig, the alleged plunderer Feldman believes was a Nazi. But rather than finding clear answers, the film unfolds into something far more complex. As filmmaker Billie Mintz documents Alex and her father’s relentless hunt, she steps back from his obsessive pursuit and instead uses the film to connect with him. Throughout this thrilling and moving documentary, Feldman’s personal trauma becomes intertwined with the broader horrors of the Holocaust. While many in the film dismiss Feldman’s claims as a conspiracy, for him, the investigation is a very real quest for justice. Audiences following the Feldmans down this rabbit hole will find that what begins as a true-crime mystery evolves into a portrait of a father and daughter and their overwhelming desire to do the right thing. —Karina Curry
