Salty Somewhat Spicy

Gur (Uria Hayik) and Gaya (Sharon Weissbart) live beside an active construction site. As concrete blocks fall from the sky and a new high-rise inches ever closer, an eviction notice is pinned to the couple’s front door. But this home belongs to Gur’s family. It’s more than just a house; it’s Gur’s heritage and the couple’s livelihood, as they struggle to run a restaurant from their kitchen. With pressure mounting and his wife’s frustration growing, Gur is forced to confront what truly matters and come to terms with a world he no longer recognizes. Writer-director Adam Souriano’s Salty Somewhat Spicy is a tale of class and family. Presented as a single tracking shot, the film offers audiences a glimpse into how quickly a family’s life can shift and how certainty can become malleable in the modern age. Salty Somewhat Spicy reminds us that even as the world quite literally crumbles around us, resilience, release, and love are essential to building anew. —Anisse Elias
